Prior to early 1973, so much opprobrium had been unfairly heaped upon servicemembers who served in Vietnam. When Operation Homecoming finally came, the reaction of jubilant crowds to returning POWs was something that every returning American should have received. Like all generations before them, Vietnam veterans answered their nation's call. Their efforts and sacrifice must be venerated every bit as much as those who came before and after. Please remember our Vietnam veterans as we commemorate the final end of the Vietnam War in coming months. They did a very hard thing in a very hard place and deserve our respect, gratitude, and admiration.
